As a CNC Programmer and CNC Setup Person, you will play a crucial role in transforming raw materials into functional objects using computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines. Your responsibilities will include reading technical blueprints, programming CNC equipment, and ensuring the final product meets specifications. Here are the key details:
Responsibilities
Reading and Interpreting Technical Blueprints:
- Understand design specifications by analyzing technical drawings and blueprints. Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) required.
Setting Up CNC Machines:
- Determine the sequence of machine operations.
- Configure CNC machines according to the provided blueprints or models.
Programming CNC Machines:
- Utilize computer software (PartMaker, Mastercam, Abile, Alkart Wizard, EditCNC, etc…) to create CNC programs. Ability to manually adjust programs. (long hand)
Selecting Cutting Tools:
- Choose and load the appropriate cutting tools for each job. Tool design, development and grinding a plus.
Adjusting Machine Settings:
- Fine-tune machine settings to achieve desired product specifications. Responsible for operating to close tolerance (+/-, 0002”) max
Quality Control:
- Perform quality checks during manufacturing.
- Ensure the final product meets design requirements.
Machine Maintenance:
- Clean and maintain CNC equipment.
- Troubleshoot any issues that arise during production.
Train New Staff:
- Train new team members on machine operation procedures and job setups.
Essential Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. (Vocational or technical certification a plus)
- Experience:
- Minimum 5-years of work experience as a CNC programmer and setup person.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting design blueprints and GD&T concepts.
- Exposure to Okuma Multus, Tsugami TMU, and Hurco conversational controls a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Physical stamina (standing for extended periods and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.).
- Willingness to work after-hours when required.
